For as long as I can remember I have been drawing, it is just a part of me.
Drawing has always been a great for me to either vent my feelings or to communicate
ideas and thoughts I have. Sometimes it seems impossible to express what I
want to get across in words, so drawing is just the next logical conclusion.
All throughout high school I tended to focus on the technical aspects of art
making. I thought that if I could just draw amazing I would have nothing else
to worry about. The only problem there is if you have all form and no function
then what was the point of making it. When I got to college (Art Institute
of Chicago, fine arts college) I began to realize this more and more. I didn't
pick up on it because I finally learned how to draw perfectly. No, I was not
and am not perfect at drawing by any means. What I did realize was that all
these people around me in college had all these great ideas and concepts but
no way of pulling them off, no form. All of their time was being spent on
the concept, thus leaving little or no effort being put into the final product
that was meant to convey their idea. At the same time, I was doing the opposite.
I was focusing so much time and energy into what doing technically, that my
concept and ideas were weak and almost meaningless.
I tend to focus on illustration because it is a great balance of form and
function. I am constantly learning new ways to further expand on my illustration
skills. I am currently using the computer to speed up and add new depth to
my work. I hope when people see my work they 1: like it (duh) 2: understand
my message or idea. Thanks for reading my ramblings. I hope you enjoy the
rest of the site.
